Music Compression
Music compression refers to the practice of lowering the quality of music through conversion to lossy formats. In the context of Club Penguin and other games, it is common to compress music from lossless formats, which take much more space, to more standard formats, such as ogg and mp3.
For Club Penguin, however, since the game dates back to the early history of the web, where internet speeds and available memory was a much greater concern, the music tended to be heavily compressed. Even after Club Penguin started using higher quality audio or in other contexts where higher quality music was available, the heavy compression of music led to a lot of music never being published in good quality. Notable examples include Wave Rider and Catchin' Waves. After the shutdown of all Club Penguin media with Club Penguin Island's shutdown in 2018, a good part of the community started to believe that a lot of the iconic songs would be left forever in bad quality. However, through many efforts, a very small number of music still remains to this day in what can be considered "very low quality".
