Communication

From Club Penguin Music

Communication, also known as "Dance Mix 1" in Club Penguin, is a stock music track composed by Bjørn Lynne[1]. The treack was featured in Club Penguin as the Night Club's background music in early 2006. Unlike Crossing Over, which is often identified as the Night Club's theme, Communication was only used for a brief period.

This track is available for licensing through Shockwave-Sound.

Uses in Club Penguin

The first use of the track dates back to Penguin Chat 3. On May 5, 2005, the team updated the Night Club to no longer include the Penguin Band, but instead a red penguin by the name of DJ Maxx, who would be, in-universe, playing new music in the room[2]. Although we have no files or footage from the time which can shows us what music was added that day, there is evidence that points Communication as being the track that was added on that day. From the feedback of the users through the blog comments, we can conclude that this new track is "scary", "much more fitting to a night club", "not of the rock genre", and replaced TAS 1000's songs which previously played, all traits which apply well to Communication[3]. It is also known that the track played in the Night Club in Club Penguin. All of that tied with the fact that Communication would later be found as ID number 2, while IDs 1 and 3 were both music that played in Penguin Chat 3, it becomes very likely that the song added on that day was Communication, and that it remained as the Night Club theme ever since that day, up until it was eventually replaced by Crossing Over around March of 2006 in Club Penguin[4][5].

In Club Penguin the track is only known to have used SWF of ID 2. The file consisted of 6 different audio clips, the first audio clip being loop 7 from the "set of 7 loops", and audio clips 2-6 equated to loops 2-6. The file played the first clip, and then played the rest at random, adding a new clip to the poll progressively. It is believed all uses of the song used this file.

The song was available as igloo music under the name "Dance Mix 1". The exact date it was added is unknown, but it is known to have been in the catalogue by May 19, 2006, and likely remained until the music list from January 25, 2008, though possibly having had removed earlier, it is known to have been in the catalogue by December 22, 2007[6].

The song also featured in the Plaza during the Pizza Parlor Opening Party, which took place from February 24-27, 2006[7].

Origin Misconception

For a long time, the song was mistakenly referred to within the community as the "Valentine's Day" song, attributed to its play during the Valentine's event in the Night Club. This was simply because it was the default Night Club music during that period, not specifically created for Valentine's Day[8].
